 Ballarat was the last part of our Great Ocean Road trip.
Gold was discovered near Ballarat in 1851, and the influx of over 10,000 miners in less than a year transformed it from a pastoral town into Victoria's largest city. Ballarat is notable as the site for Australia's only armed civil uprising, colloquially referred to as the Eureka Stockade but more correctly titled the Eureka Rebellion, which took place on 3 December 1854. While the city's growth slowed after the 1880s and Melbourne quickly overshadowed its importance, Ballarat remains a major inland regional centre and tourist destination, having retained much of its Victorian era heritage and is known for its grand heritage listed buildings and gardens. I made this trip in early June of 2007. I just haven't got round to sorting out the photos until now.
I'm going to do a thematic sort of arrangement, hope it make more sense.
I'm kick starting with the highlights of the Great Ocean Road...
The 12 Apostles
are a collection of natural limestone stacks standing just off shore in the Port Campbell National Park, on the Great Ocean Road. Originally the site was called the Sow and Piglets. The name was changed in the 1950s to the more majestic "The Twelve Apostles" to lure more visitors even though there are only nine left. The Twelve Apostles are between the towns of Port Campbell and Princetown on the Great Ocean Road. In the early 2000s a visitor centre was built on the inland side of the road, to allow for easy parking and access to the best viewing area.You can also get a helicopter ride around them, just like what we did.
For the helicopter ride, we got lucky because this customer wanted to do the low flying one so the guy gave us a discount. I got to sit in front and it's really the best way to take in all the view. As they say, if you don't like the weather in Melbourne just wait 10 minutes, it will change. When we reached, it was drizzling and looked like a bad storm was approaching but we got clear sky and warm sunshine for the ride. So we got a darn good view.
The low part is the guy couldn't give us our dvd of the ride because he said he wouldn't be around in half an hour because it's time to go home. He said he will mail it to us but we told him we would come back to collect the next day. He must be thinking, "Damn, these people are persistent". So we really drove 25k back in the morning to pick it up. To our dismay, it was still not ready and once again, he said he would mail it to us. Apparently, that's what they do for all the dvds. We told him that we actually came from another town so he had no choice but to do it, because we were not leaving the place until he hands it over. We must have looked like customers from hell. So after like 30 min, we finally got it. Yippie. So we hit the road again.
London's Bridge
This rock formation called London Bridge after the famous children's song became reality in January 1997 when it suddenly collapsed.
For many years, day-trippers had walked out along this natural bridge to the big rock at the end but after sitting there for possible millions of years the bridge spontaneously collapsed in January 1997, leaving two startled people stranded on the rock who had to wait several hours for a helicipter to arrive to ferry them back to the mainland.
There is an urban myth that these two people were not actually a couple but both cheating on their repective partners and having their adultery affair caught red handed on national television. My guide told me the story about the cheating couple but I have no way of ascertaining if its true or not.
Lord Ard Gorge
The Clipper Loch Ard left England in 1878 with 54 passengers, crew and cargo valued at $100,000.00. Three months later disaster struck and the Lord Ard sunk. The two survivors Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael, both 18, were washed into the now named Loch Ard Gorge.

Fingerwork
Look for Melissa. She is very skilled and a nice lady. Uses O-P-I colors. Nice and quaint placed tucked behind Boat Quay. She went through different colours with me and even painted each of my nails differently until I found one I like. Nails were properly cleaned, massaged and painted. Even had cakes and tea from her. Pricing is quite standard. I did express French mani ($15) and full french pedi ($30).
Sidenote, she said I have very healthy nails, just my toe nails are a bit yellow but it's inevitable since I always go for dark colors. So the GNC supplement must be working ^_^
GNC Ultra Nourishair
I got this from drugstore.com for about $30, I think it is selling for $60+ in local GNC. Anyway the women's version was OOS the last time I checked but the SA assured me the men's formula is the same and will not cause hormonal change but I was sceptical and bought from Drugstore instead. I did notice a glow to my skin, my nails are growing superfast, I have to cut every 2 weeks. My hair seems to be only slightly better.

But I am switching to OLAY once I'm done with this bottle. The pills are huge, if I don't swallow properly, I will suffer heartburn for like 30 minutes. These 2 make tightlining a breeze, better than pencil and easier than liquid eyeliner. Did not smudge on me at the end of the day unlike pencil.

I like the watermelon smell, wanted to get Biotherm lipgloss but the SA told me they've stopped selling cosmetics. Sheer pinkish brown.
This is limited ed so there are only like Hush hush, warm smile, shush! and one more left by the time I checked them out. |
